- Mimic is a drawing of a smoking monkey mother with a infant chimp on her back. I pencilled this sketch back in 2004 and is a comment on the idea of the word 'ape' means to mimic,. I had heard at the time that apes share an approximate 99% DNA match to humans and although at first glance the psychical differences are clearly apparent but are we really that much more evolved? If we consider that a infant chimp learns it fundamental survival instincts by mimicking its elders, however it seems that many of our current generation are only passing on negative attributes, stuck as smoking around their children and in turn sharing a cigarette an other negative behaviour. I have recently begun making a 3D representational of this idea by modify a childrens toy monkey. Which will feature in my sculpture gallery in the near future.
