I produced this painting by flooding the canvas with four different colours, brilliant yellow, leaf green, cobalt blue and magenta. I then worked on top of the abstract image It made by painting more representation images, that I felt the image suggested, creating a surreal semi abstract landscape. I chose to depict a number of mythical and unusual creatures set against the background of a waterfall. There is the figure of a unicorn wadding through the drop pool in the foreground, a chupacabra in the tree and a smoking caterpillar in the vegetation, which is a reference to the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ inspired song by Jefferson Airplane 'White Rabbit' and taken from the film 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' which I put in a slight nod towards the almost hallucinogenic quality of the landscape and a slight mark of respect to the author Hunter S.Thompson. The title of the painting is taken from another favoured author of mine Neil Gaiman. Although the context of the painting has no direct influence form the novel I thought the title was a fitting term for the piece which was produced entirely from my imagination and has no tangible reference in reality.
Although the painting is not for sale, it is available to buy as a fine art print.
